We're sorry to hear you're having issues with your remote. In most cases, it’s related to pairing, but it’s also important to check if the remote itself is functioning properly.
Let’s walk through how to identify the issue and get everything working again.
Check if the Remote Is Working
Before assuming it's a pairing issue, let’s first confirm whether the remote is functioning correctly.
Plug the remote into a charger using the USB-C cable.
Watch the LED lights on the remote:
If both lights blink together, it means the remote is charging correctly — the remote is working fine.
If both lights stay on (solid), the remote is fully charged — also fine.
If the lights blink, but not at the same time, this indicates a charging issue — the remote is likely faulty.
If no lights appear at all, even when charging, the remote may not be receiving power — it's likely faulty.
If your remote shows the correct charging behavior (either blinking together or solid), you’re good to proceed.
If your remote shows incorrect behavior or no lights, please contact us at support@unit1gear.com — we’ll help you with the next steps.
Important: The Remote Never Turns Off
The UNIT 1 Remote has an internal accelerometer, which means it never fully powers down. Instead, it goes into sleep mode when not in motion.
If your remote seems unresponsive, it may simply be asleep.
Just shake it lightly, mimicking bike movement — this will wake it up immediately.
Manually Pair Your Devices
Step 1: Pair Your Devices Manually
⚠ Important: Manual pairing ensures your helmet, lights, and remote are reliably connected and stay in sync. If you rely on the app too early, it can actually cause your devices to disconnect. That’s why this step must be done first.
- Turn on your helmet and lights: The remote turns on automatically as long as it’s charged, so make sure it has battery.
- Reset Your Devices:
-
On each device (helmet, lights), press the power button 8 times. You don’t need to reset the remote. It doesn’t have a reset function.
- ⚠ Make sure you hear or feel a click each time—this confirms that the button is being pressed properly.
-
After the 8th press, a green light should appear—this means the reset worked.
- Pair the Remote: While everything is still on, press and hold one of the turn signal buttons on the remote (left or right) for about 5 seconds. When a yellow light appears on the helmet and lights, pairing is complete.

Step 2: Connect Your Devices in the App
Once you’ve successfully paired your devices manually, you can now use the app to access additional features and customization.
1. Download the App and Update Everything
- Make sure you’ve downloaded the UNIT 1 app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and complete any firmware updates or other updates the app asks for.
These updates are important for everything to work properly.
2. Clear Previous Connections (If Needed)
- If your devices were already added to the app but weren’t working, remove all of them from the app first. This gives you a clean slate to reconnect everything the right way.
- Go to your profile (top-right avatar with initials) > Devices > Select each device > Delete Device.
3. Follow the On-Screen Instructions
- Use the app’s guided steps to connect your helmet, lights, and remote.
- Just follow the prompts—it will walk you through the process.
4. You should be all set!
