Replacing the fitting system and strap set on your UNIT 1 helmet is simple if you follow the steps below. This guide applies to all our helmet models. Before you begin, we recommend watching the full video tutorial:
Recommended Tools
- Pliers
- A small pointed object (a key, pen, or similar)
- A soft surface to protect the helmet shell
Important Notes
- The MIPS liner is flexible. You can move it aside as needed; it will return to its original shape.
- Each strap is secured using small metal cylinders (bolts) inside the helmetβs EPS shell.
Part 1: Removing the Old Strap Set and Fitting System
1. Prepare the Helmet
Place the helmet on a soft surface to avoid scratches. Move the brim out of the way if your model includes one.
2. Remove the Strap Anchors
Gently uplift the MIPS layer of the helmet to find the beginning of the straps Each strap is held in place by a metal cylinder. To remove them:
- Pull on the strap until the metal cylinder becomes visible.
- Once exposed, use your fingers or pliers to pull the cylinder out.
- Slide the strap out of the anchor area.
Repeat this process for all three anchor points:
- Left side
- Right side
- Back (this one may require a bit more manipulation of the MIPS liner)
As you remove each cylinder, the corresponding strap will detach.
3. Remove the Fitting System
The fitting system is attached at three snap points:
- One on each side
One at the back
Firmly pull on the plastic to release each snap. Once all three are removed, the helmet will be strap-free.
Part 2: Installing the New Strap Set and Fitting System
1. Attach the Fitting System
- Start with the back snap. Youβll see two small holes in the EPS shell where the fitting system inserts.
- Press firmly until it clicks into place.
- Attach the side snaps the same way.
2. Install the New Straps
You will now reverse the removal process:
A. Side Straps
- Make sure the straps are aligned and not twisted.
- Insert the strap into the anchor area.
- Use your fingers or tools to guide the strap through until the metal cylinder can be reinserted.
- Once the cylinder is visible on both ends, push it in.
- Pull the strap to ensure the cylinder locks securely inside the anchor.
Repeat on the other side.
B. Rear Strap
This is the trickiest anchor point:
- Move the MIPS liner aside.
- Insert the strap into the rear anchor area.
- Push the strap until the ends appear on the other side.
- Use pliers to pull the strap through if needed.
- Reinsert the metal cylinder once both ends are exposed.
- Pull the strap several times to ensure a secure fit.
3. Final Check
Pull on all three straps to confirm they are firmly anchored. Make sure no excess strap is folded or rubbing against the liner.
Your helmet now has a fully installed, brand-new fitting system and strap set.
